Montclair and Essex County's private-practice landscape

Montclair has long been a center for independent therapists in North Jersey, with group practices in shared suites along Bloomfield Avenue and in nearby Glen Ridge, West Orange and Maplewood. Rates sit well above the national average: a Zencare study reported by Becker's put New Jersey's average session fee at $198.20, eighth-highest in the country (Becker's Behavioral Health).

Many Essex County practices mix individual, couples and family work, often with a psychologist or two alongside LCSWs and LPCs. The common thread is a shared brand with several clinicians under it.

Three Montclair workflows in Prexella

1. One brand, several clinicians

A Montclair group runs one booking page, one client portal and one set of emails, all under the practice's own name and domain with Prexella's white-label setup. Each clinician keeps their own calendar and superbill details. Prexella is one flat fee for the practice, so a new associate adds a calendar, not a seat charge.

2. Intake done before the first session

New clients are guided from booking into the client portal, where intake, informed consent, the privacy notice and telehealth consent are waiting. Each signature is captured with an ESIGN and UETA audit trail: the consent statement, typed name, drawn signature, time, IP address and browser. See e-signatures for the full record. Your first session starts with the paperwork done.

3. Measurement-based care between sessions

Clients complete PHQ-9 and GAD-7 screenings in the portal. Scores are saved to their record, so a psychologist or LCSW can see the trend before each session, and a positive answer on PHQ-9 item 9 routes the client to the C-SSRS and flags the result.

Billing in Essex County

Out-of-network clients get superbills from completed sessions with your New Jersey license number, NPI and EIN, the diagnosis and CPT codes such as 90834, 90837 and 90847 for family sessions. Most Essex County clients with employer coverage are Horizon members.

Setting up a Montclair group

A Montclair group is usually set up in one call. The Prexella team adds the session types each clinician offers with their own fees, the intake and consent forms the practice uses, and the practice's branding and domain. From then on, every new client books on the practice's page, pays at checkout and signs forms in the portal.

Groups here often ask about:

  • Family and couples sessions. Mark family sessions with the client present as 90847, or without the client as 90846, on superbills.
  • Separate fees by clinician. A newly licensed associate can offer a lower fee than a senior psychologist; each is simply a different session type.
  • Waitlists. Prexella does not have a waitlist feature. Most groups open new intake slots when a clinician has room and let new clients book them directly.
  • Reduced-fee spots. Use a reduced-fee session type or a promo code at checkout.

Pricing. Prexella is one flat fee for the practice, quoted on a demo call, with no per-clinician seats.

Switching. Export your client list and documents from your current system, set up Prexella, send new bookings to your new page and let existing appointments finish where they are. See how to switch, and the marriage and family therapists page for the couples and family view.

A note on Essex County referrals. Group practices here often receive referrals from pediatricians, schools and other clinicians. Prexella saves how each new client heard about you on their booking, so you can see over time which referral relationships bring in the most new clients.

Frequently asked questions

Our group shares a suite in Montclair. Can each clinician have their own calendar?

Yes. Each clinician has their own schedule, and clients booking online see the session types and times you open. The owner sees everyone's sessions from one dashboard.

Can parents sign consent forms for a minor client?

Forms are signed in the client portal by the account holder. For minors, set up the account with the parent or guardian so they complete and sign the intake and consent forms.

Does Prexella send intake forms automatically?

New clients are guided into the client portal after booking, where your intake and consent forms are waiting. You can also send any form to a client from the dashboard.
