The short answer

Choose Practice Better if you run a nutrition, functional medicine, coaching or wellness business built around programs, and you want built-in video and a free plan to start on.

Choose Prexella if you are a private-pay therapist, counselor or coach who sells sessions and prepaid packages, you want your practice's own brand and domain on everything clients see, you want superbills for out-of-network clients and a marketing suite in the same system, and you would rather pay one flat fee than per practitioner as the team grows.

Prexella vs Practice Better: 12 criteria side by side

Pricing for a three-practitioner practice

Here is the math for a common setup: an owner and two associates.

Practice Better. Multiple practitioners need the Team plan.

Line Monthly
Team plan (includes 2 practitioners) $155
1 additional practitioner $50
Subtotal $205
Optional: AI Charting Assistant, mid tier ($20 × 3) $60
Optional: Connector Hub (Mailchimp, HubSpot sync) $49
With both add-ons $314

That is $2,460 a year before add-ons at monthly billing. Practice Better lists the Team plan at $145 a month when billed annually (Practice Better pricing, verified 10/10/2026); its page does not state whether the $50 additional-practitioner fee changes on annual billing. SMS reminders are 5 cents a text and storage beyond the plan is $1 per GB a month, so a busy practice will see small usage charges on top.

Prexella. One flat fee covers the practice, whether you have one practitioner or five, and it is quoted for your practice on a demo call. There are no seat fees, no connector fees for marketing, and no AI add-ons because Prexella does not sell AI note-taking. A solo coach with a handful of clients will usually pay less on Practice Better's free or Starter plans; the comparison shifts as you add practitioners and want branding and marketing included.

What clients see in each system

Booking and paying. A Prexella client books on your own domain: they pick a service, choose telehealth or in office, take an open time and pay by card in one flow. Every slot is checked on the server before it is confirmed, so double bookings and past-date bookings cannot happen. Clients can also buy a multi-session package and have all the dates booked in one checkout. Practice Better's pricing page does not detail its booking flow.

The portal. In Prexella, the client portal is where clients sign intake and consent forms with an ESIGN and UETA audit trail, message you, buy session credits, complete check-ins such as the PHQ-9 and GAD-7, keep a journal and work through workbooks. Practice Better positions its client experience around the programs and packages its practitioners sell, which suits nutrition, wellness and coaching businesses.

Branding. Prexella clients only ever see your practice's name and domain. Practice Better offers portal branding and a personalized URL on its Plus plan.

What a practice owner's week looks like

Monday: open the dashboard to see the week's sessions, clients whose session credits are running low, and forms still waiting for a signature. Prexella emails clients automatically when their credit balance runs low and the day before the last session of a package, so you are not writing those reminders yourself.

During the week: every client gets a reminder the day before each session, and telehealth clients get the video link in the same email. Recurring clients keep their weekly slot without being rebooked, and new clients book, pay and sign their paperwork without a phone call.

Month end: generate superbills for out-of-network clients in one click each, review income in Finances, and check which marketing channels brought in new clients this month. In Practice Better, the same week centers on the programs your clients are working through and the messages you broadcast to them, which is where its strengths lie.

Where Prexella wins

1. Your brand on your own domain

Prexella is white-label. The booking page, client portal and every confirmation, reminder and superbill email run on your domain with your practice name. Practice Better's Plus plan offers portal branding and a personalized URL, which helps, but its pricing page does not list running the client experience on your own domain.

2. One price as the team grows

Practice Better's multi-practitioner pricing starts with the Team plan and adds $50 for every practitioner beyond the first two. Prexella is one flat fee, so adding an associate or a part-time practitioner does not change the bill. For a practice planning to hire, that predictability is easier to budget for.

3. Built for private-pay therapy: superbills, screenings and marketing

Practice Better lists superbills, but Prexella's superbills are built from completed sessions in one click, with CPT, ICD-10, NPI, EIN, license number and place of service filled in, which matters for therapy clients claiming out-of-network benefits. Prexella also includes validated screenings (PHQ-9, GAD-7, C-SSRS and others) in the portal, and a marketing suite with ad result tracking, video scripts and client newsletters, without a separate connector subscription.

Where Practice Better wins

1. Programs

Practice Better is built for nutrition, functional medicine, coaching and wellness practitioners who sell programs and packages, and its higher plans add broadcast messaging to reach those clients at scale. Prexella sells sessions and session packages; it does not have a program builder. For practitioners whose product is a program rather than a run of sessions, Practice Better is the stronger tool.

2. A free plan and self-serve start

Practice Better's Sprout plan is free for students and recent graduates with up to three clients, and paid plans have a 14-day trial (30 days on Team) you can start yourself. Prexella is set up for you after a demo. If you want to try a system tonight without talking to anyone, Practice Better makes that easier.

3. Built-in video, AI charting and e-prescribing

Practice Better includes telehealth video from its Starter plan, offers an AI Charting Assistant from $10 a month per practitioner, and sells ePrescribe and PDMP add-ons. Prexella routes telehealth to the video tool you already use and does not offer AI notes or e-prescribing. Practitioners who prescribe, or who want AI help with charting, will find more in Practice Better.

Questions to ask before you choose

A demo or trial is the best place to test claims, including ours. Questions worth asking Practice Better:

  • How many practitioners does your plan include, and what does each additional one cost on annual billing?
  • Which features in our workflow need the Plus or Team plan, such as portal branding or broadcast messaging?
  • What will add-ons like AI charting, SMS reminders and Connector Hub add to our monthly bill?
  • Can clients book and pay on our own domain, or only through your portal?
  • How do superbills work for therapy clients claiming out-of-network benefits?

And questions worth asking us on a Prexella demo:

  • What is the flat fee for our practice, and what does setup include?
  • How will our client records be moved, given what our current system lets us export?
  • Which video tool should we pair with Prexella for telehealth, and does it sign a BAA?

Verdict

Prexella vs Practice Better mostly depends on what you sell. If it is programs, Practice Better is designed for exactly that, and its free and low-cost plans make it easy to start. If it is therapy or coaching sessions and prepaid packages, under your own brand, with superbills for out-of-network clients and marketing in the same place, Prexella is the closer fit, and its flat fee pulls ahead as the team grows.

Frequently asked questions

Is Prexella cheaper than Practice Better?

For a solo practitioner, probably not: Practice Better has a free plan for up to three clients and paid plans from $35 a month. For a team, Practice Better's Team plan is $155 a month with two practitioners included and $50 for each additional one, so three practitioners start at $205 a month billed monthly. Prexella is one flat fee for the practice, quoted on a demo call.

Can Prexella sell programs and packages like Practice Better?

Prexella sells prepaid session credits and multi-session packages that clients book and pay for online. It does not have Practice Better's programs. If your business is built on selling programs rather than sessions, Practice Better is the better fit.

Does Prexella run on my own domain?

Yes. Booking, the client portal and every email carry your practice name and domain. Practice Better's Plus plan lists portal branding and a personalized URL; a full custom domain is not listed on its pricing page.

Does Prexella include telehealth video?

No. Prexella schedules telehealth and in-office sessions in one calendar and emails clients the join link; the video runs in the HIPAA-ready tool you already use. Practice Better includes telehealth video from its Starter plan.

How do I switch from Practice Better to Prexella?

Export your client list and documents from Practice Better, book a setup call so the Prexella team can configure your services, forms and branding, then send new bookings to Prexella while existing appointments finish in Practice Better. Most practices run both for one billing cycle.
