The Los Angeles private practice market
Los Angeles County is large, spread out and expensive, and its private practices reflect that: many clinicians run a small office in West LA, Santa Monica or Culver City and see a large share of clients by video to spare them the drive. Median household income in Los Angeles County was $90,845 in 2024, compared with $100,149 for California as a whole (U.S. Census Bureau ACS 2024 via Census Reporter). The county average hides wide variation: Westside practices often price well above it, while practices in the Valley or South Bay compete more on availability.
Entertainment-industry clients, creatives on irregular schedules and a large coaching market all shape how Los Angeles practices book and bill.
Three Los Angeles workflows
Westside office, citywide telehealth
A typical pattern: two office days in Santa Monica and three telehealth days. In Prexella, each session type can be offered as telehealth or in office, the client picks when they book, and both show on one calendar. Telehealth clients get the join link in their confirmation and in the reminder email the day before. Because so many clients travel for work, confirm where the client is at the start of each video session; California only lets you treat clients located in another state if that state allows it.
Packages for clients with irregular income
Clients paid by the project often prefer to buy a block of sessions when work comes in. Prexella's session credits let a client prepay for a package in the portal; each completed session draws one down, and a reminder goes out when the balance runs low. Promo codes cover introductory offers without a separate tool.
Out-of-network superbills for PPO clients
Many Westside clients carry employer PPO plans with Anthem, Blue Shield or UnitedHealthcare. At the end of the month, generate a superbill for each of them in one click, with your NPI, EIN, license number, the ICD-10 code you choose and a CPT code suggested from the session length. Clients with Kaiser HMO coverage should check their out-of-network benefit first.
Why a white-label system suits Los Angeles
In a market this crowded, the booking page, the client portal and every email carry your practice's name on your own domain, not a vendor's. That is what white-label means in Prexella, and it is why marketing-minded LA practices use the built-in marketing suite to track which channels bring in new clients.
What to set up first in a Los Angeles practice
Most Los Angeles practices that move to Prexella start with three decisions.
Which sessions are telehealth-only. Freeway traffic means many clinicians reserve office days for intakes and couples work and see established clients by video. Set each session type as telehealth, in office or both, then open slots for each.
Your cancellation policy. Clients on shoots or tour schedules cancel late more often than most. Put your late-cancellation policy in the informed consent clients sign before the first session, and use prepaid credits so a late cancellation inside the window is handled against the balance rather than chased by invoice.
What your booking page says. In a market where clients compare several therapists before booking, the booking page is often your first impression. Prexella shows your session types, descriptions and fees on your own domain, then takes payment and moves the client straight into portal setup and intake forms.
Coaches who also hold an LMFT or LCSW license should keep coaching clients and therapy clients in clearly separated practices, with separate forms and records, so it is always clear which sessions are delivered under the license.

Frequently asked questions
Can I see a client who is filming out of state this month?
Only if the state where the client is located allows it and you meet its requirements. The BBS rule for out-of-state clients applies even when the client normally lives in Los Angeles. Confirm the client's location at the start of each session.
Can a coaching business and a licensed therapy practice share one Prexella account?
Prexella models one practice per instance. If coaching and therapy are run as separate businesses with separate branding, set them up as separate practices so records, forms and booking pages stay apart.
Do Los Angeles clients expect to pay online when they book?
Prexella takes card payment at checkout on your booking page, and clients can buy prepaid session credits in the portal, so payment is handled before the session either way.
