Rockland's private-practice landscape
Rockland is smaller than Westchester but has a solid base of independent clinicians. As of July 1, 2026, the Office of the Professions counted 741 licensed clinical social workers and 251 licensed mental health counselors with Rockland County addresses (NYSED LCSW statistics, NYSED LMHC statistics).
Practices cluster in the village centers of Nyack, New City and Suffern, often in a converted house or a shared suite. Clients come from both sides of the Hudson and from Bergen County, New Jersey, a few minutes south. Office time is valuable and limited, so many Rockland clinicians keep two or three in-person days and run the rest by video.
Three Rockland workflows in Prexella
1. In-office days, video days
Block the days you are in the Nyack or New City office and leave the rest open for video. When a client books, they choose in office or telehealth, and the slot list only shows times that are actually open. Telehealth clients get your video link in their confirmation and reminder emails; in-office clients get the address. The superbill applies place-of-service 11 or 10 to match.
2. Couples and family work paid in advance
Couples and family sessions are longer and pricier, and chasing two people for one payment is awkward. Rockland practices that do this work sell session credit packages: the couple buys four or eight sessions in the portal, each completed session draws one down, and Prexella emails them three days before credits run out.
3. One portal for forms, messages and check-ins
New clients are guided from payment into the client portal, where intake, informed consent and telehealth consent are waiting to be e-signed. Between sessions clients can message you and complete PHQ-9 or GAD-7 check-ins, with scores saved to their record.
Billing in Rockland
Most Rockland clients carry employer coverage from New York or New Jersey carriers. For out-of-network clients, Prexella's superbill includes your New York license number, NPI and EIN, the diagnosis you enter and each session's CPT code, ready for the client to submit.
Getting a Rockland practice running
Rockland practices are usually small, an owner and perhaps one associate, so setup is quick. On one call the Prexella team adds your session types and fees, your in-office and video hours, your forms and your practice branding. Your booking page then lives at your own domain and can be linked from your website or directory profiles.
A few things Rockland clinicians tend to set up early:
- A cross-border reminder in your telehealth consent. If you also hold a New Jersey license, add a line to your telehealth consent form asking clients to tell you when they are joining from another state. Prexella stores the signed form on their record.
- Separate couples and individual packages, priced differently, so couples prepay for couples work and individuals for individual sessions.
- A short consultation slot. Many Nyack and New City clinicians offer a free 15-minute call before intake; it is just another session type with no charge.
Pricing. Prexella is one flat fee for the practice, quoted on a demo call, with no per-clinician seats. Adding an associate for Saturday hours does not change it.
Switching. Export your client list and documents from your current system, set up Prexella, and send new bookings to your new page while existing appointments finish where they are. See how to switch.

Frequently asked questions
Many of my clients live in New Jersey, just over the line from Suffern. Can I see them by video?
Only with a New Jersey license or another authorization, because New Jersey requires a New Jersey license when the client is located in New Jersey during a telehealth session. In-office sessions in Rockland are not affected. Prexella records the visit type; you confirm the client's location at the start of each video session.
Can clients pay for a package of couples sessions up front?
Yes. Clients buy session credits in the portal, and each completed session uses one. You can set packages for individual and couples sessions at different prices.
Is there a contract?
Pricing and terms are quoted for your practice on a demo call. Prexella is one flat fee for the practice rather than per clinician.
